What Makes a Healthy Town?

It is a proactive team who work for the community and are led by actions, collaboration and deeds, that improve our local place.

Now more than ever the community needs to play its part in promoting positive health and wellbeing across many areas that affect the people of Chippenham. This is both a partnership and an inclusive movement that gets together all those organisations, groups, and individuals who have an interest with one aim - to both enhance and improve the community of Chippenham.

Like the other two Town Teams, for those involved it is innovative and creative, following the creed that if it is good for Chippenham, legal, and possible, then actions should follow.

Those actions will be broad ranging covering both physical wellbeing and the less visual aspect of facilitating positive mental health - something that can be achieved by facilitating debt advice, promoting inclusion, and actions aimed at the alleviation of social isolation.

There are many ‘assets’ within communities, such as skills and knowledge, that can be mobilised to promote health and wellbeing, and we know that under certain circumstances social isolation and loneliness can be as bad for health as physical risk factors such as smoking.

The communities that people are born into, live, work, and socialise in have a significant influence on how healthy they are, and while these factors can have as much an impact on health and wellbeing as professional health services, the communities themselves often have great insight about how improvements can be made.

The Town Team aims to link together organisations, individuals, and groups, who together can make Chippenham a healthy town in which its inhabitants live a long and fulfilling life.

It's all about community......
